Kellihers Electrical
Kellihers Electrical
Moorland, Dundalk, Co Louth
THE SITUATION
Kelliher's Electrical is Ireland's leading electrical wholesaler, serving electrical industry professionals all over Ireland on a daily basis. With their comprehensive stock profile, reliable delivery, competitive pricing and knowledgeable staff customers always come back again and again.
The decision to have PV installed follows the successful installations of a Solar PV array in Kellihers Cork and Ballymount office buildings. This reinforces their ongoing commitment to the products they sell in terms of sustainable, renewable and energy efficient solutions.
THE EXPECTATION
Micheal Smith of M&C Hybrid Energy Ltd carried out an assessment of Kellihers Electrical building in Dundalk to establish how they could
- Save on their energy bills
- Save on the running costs of this busy outlet
- Reduce their carbon footprint
- Comply with Part L of the building regulations
THE SOLUTION
Micheal proposed installing a 5kW Trina Solar PV system with a Hybrid Inverter and Battery.
We used 20no PV panels mounted on a trapezoidal roof south facing using the Van der Valk roof mounting system with a BPE Hybrid Inverter and Battery storage.
RESULTS & BENEFITS
5KW of PV is offsetting approximately 4300 kwh's per year.
This job was completed in just two days with no disruption to the business.
THE PROJECT
4,300 units of power per annum
System Size of PV:
5kw
We work with homeowners, Businesses, Community Schemes, Mushroom Farmers and The Agricultural sector to ensure our clients save MONEY, save ENERGY and reduce their reliance of fossil fuels.
By changing to Renewable Energy Technologies for your energy requirements, you will reduce your CO2 Emissions, increase your energy efficiency and in doing this promote a positive green image which in turn is helping our environment.

Saint-Gobain Construction
THE SITUATION
Saint-Gobain, the worldwide leader for Habitat, provides its expertise in the areas of innovation and co-development through a wide range of high-performance materials for demanding applications in diverse segments, such as the automotive, aeronautical, health, defense, security and even the food and beverage industries.
Saint-Gobain provides solutions that make buildings more efficient in terms of their energy consumption, and which help contribute to saving the planet. Most of its solutions (especially those using glass, mineral wood insulation, plasterboards, and facade and floor covering mortars) are already helping and will help even more in the future to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
They offer a range of high performance energy-saving products and solutions to help create a more sustainable built environment.
THE EXPECTATION
Dave Kent Operations Director of Saint-Gobain contacted Micheal to do a site visit to have a look at putting in some renewable technology in their new training academy. Micheal completed an energy assessment of the site taking into account the following:
- Reduce energy load
- Reduce carbon foot print
- Substantial financial saving
THE SOLUTION
Micheal decided that he would install a solar thermal system for all their hot water requirements. The dimensions of this building required 20m² of solar CPC panels along with a 500 litre hot water cylinder.
The team also installed a Rain Water Harvesting System which helps towards the flushing of the toilets and urinals.
RESULTS & BENEFITS
Solar Thermal can satisfy a large part of your heating needs, reducing your energy bills and CO2 Emissions. This system we installed can supply more than 50% of our clients annual hot water needs delivering financial and environmental benefits.
This has given our clients lots of hot water and reduced their water bill for the academy.
All works were completed by "M&C Hybrid Energy Ltd".

McCauls Kitchens
McCaul Kitchens
Lonnogs, Co Cavan
THE SITUATION
McCaul Kitchens is a family run business established in Crosskeys, Cavan in 1999 by Gerard McCaul. The company has consistently grown over the years, increasing its showroom and workshop area to over 3000 sq foot.
McCaul Kitchens specialise in bespoke "in-framed" and "lay on" kitchens in both painted hardwood and natural wood finishes. They also specialize in sliding wardrobes, fitted home office furniture and bespoke display cabinets.
THE EXPECTATION
Micheal first visited Gerard at the workshop in early 2009 to do a site visit to access the building and establish how we could help Gerard to
- Save on their energy bills
- Save on the running costs of this facility
- Reduce reliance of fossil fuels
We were delighted to secure a Greener Homes Scheme Grant through SEAI for Gerard in McCaul Kitchens.
THE SOLUTION
In 2009 M&C Hybrid Energy Limited secured a 30% Grant for this busy workshop and showroom and all work began in June 2010.
Micheal and the team installed an 80 kilowatt Wood Chip Boiler with a 2000 litre Buffer Tank. We disconnected three oil boilers which was costing Gerard approximately €7235.00 to run per annum. These three boilers were heating the house, the workshop and the show room.
It was also costing Gerard €480.00 for one skip every month to recycle the waste timber from his workshop so when we installed the wood chip boiler and buffer tank, ran new pipe work to the house, workshop and show room Gerard installed a wood chipper to recycle his waste timber on site which he used to burn in the new boiler.
RESULTS & BENEFITS
Since this was installed ten years ago now, Gerard has made enormous savings.
We eliminated his oil bill of €7235.00 in full and also eliminated the cost of €5760.00 for the skip hire and waste timber which he was sending to be recycled.
THE PROJECT
Average Annual Savings:
Oil Savings approximately €7235.00
Skip Hire approximately €5760.00
Micheal just recently called back to Gerard in McCaul Kitchens to make sure everything was working to order and all is good. Gerard is very happy with all the equipment which we installed and even happier with all the savings he has made.
The job was completed by M&C Hybrid Energy Ltd.
Texaco Wilkinstown
Texaco Filling Station
Wilkinstown, Meath
THE SITUATION
Doughty's Texaco Mace, Wilkinstown, Navan is a very busy filling station on the outskirts of Navan town.
Brendan was keen to get an energy assessment to look at how he could achieve a better energy rating and see how he could reduce the day to day running costs of the filling station.
Following a site visit, a one to one meeting and a thorough roof inspection Micheal was happy to work on a PV design for these premises.
THE EXPECTATION
It was always been of upmost importance to try and
- Improve energy efficiency
- Reduce reliance of fossil fuels
- Play our part in producing clean energy
On a 3 phase system the maximum amount of PV that the ESB will allow you to connect is 11kw without having to put on G10 relay.
PRODUCTS
Trina Solar PV Panel:
Fronius Symo 10 Inverter
THE SOLUTION
An 11kw PV system with Van Der Valk roof mounting kit along with Trina Solar was installed as it is a Tier 1 product on the roof of the filling station to offset emissions by generating on site.
The 11Kw installation incorporates 40 x 270 watt panels fixed to the flat-roof of the building. One of the biggest challenges of installing solar panels on a flat roof is the risk of compromising the waterproof integrity of the roof.
RESULTS & BENEFITS
This PV installation will offset approximately 10,000 kwh of electricity per annum and will do this for at least 25 years with no maintenance.
THE PROJECT
Average annual Savings:
Approximately €1500.00 savings on electricity per year
Energy Generated:
10,000 units of power per annum
System Size:
11kw Trina PV Panel with Fronius Symo Inverter
"The use of PV Solar panels instead of non-renewable energy sources meant that this project will make a huge offset against CO² Emissions. Also it will have a longer lasting impact as it will demonstrate to the wider public and private sector how PV is now a cost effective option in the Irish climate.
